Please note that Productivity Place Program funding has now been fully allocated.
The Queensland Government partnered with Energy Skills Queensland to manage the delivery of an additional $8.1 million worth of training to job seekers and existing workers within the energy and telecommunications industries.
Under the Productivity Places Program, Energy Skills Queensland brokered funding to train approximately 1,250 more existing workers and 290 more job seekers from 2010 to 2012.
The level of demand from the energy and telecommunications industry in 2009 was such that the 675 training places made available through this partnership in 2009 have been fully allocated. Enterprises within the industry contributed up to 40% of the cost of training to upskill their existing workforce.
Through the second round of funding in 2010, industry made a similar contribution towards the delivery of high level existing worker training in priority areas such as electrical instrumentation, renewable energy, electrical supply and electrical engineering. The additional funding expanded opportunities for job seekers to develop skills in areas such as telecommunications cabling and electrotechnology.
Energy Skills Queensland would like to thank all employers and training organisations in these industries for upskilling their workforce.
The Productivity Places Program was a joint initiative of the Commonwealth and State Governments to address higher-level skill shortages and increase workforce participation and productivity.
